Augustin, Michael ; Korbel, Václav (advisor) ; Šťastná, Lenka (referee)
The "hot hand" effect describes the phenomenon when an athlete makes a considerable in his performance following a series of successes. In the professional literature was the "hot hand" effect considered a fallacy until 2014, when a substantial bias was discovered in the original test method, and a new set of statistics, which controlled for the bias, was introduced. The aim of this work is to test the occurrence of "hot hand" using new methods and to create a performance analysis of both genders. Furthermore it will be proven that the "hot hand" is not a privilege of the best NBA players in the world, but can also occur in semi-professional leagues such as the Czech NBL. The first part of the thesis presents the theory of "hot-hand fallacy" and its important implications in the world of economics and finance. There is also a key review of the "hot hand" literature. In the second and third parts, the biased data and the methodology of the "hot hand" literature are presented, and a new method for controlling this bias is introduced. Results discussing the performance test according to gender and the possibilities of further testing are to be...
The concept of libertarian paternalism in the recodification of Czech private law.
Mičková, Barbora ; Urban, Michal (advisor) ; Ondřejková, Jana (referee)
The master thesis The concept of libertarian paternalism in the recodification of Czech private law introduces a concept that works as an efficient synthesis of two different approaches to the relationship between the individual and the state: liberalism and paternalism. Libertarian paternalism deals mainly with the default system setting and setting of the recommendations and mechanism that are helpful in the decision making process of an individual as well as the whole society. The master thesis defines this concept, its main attributes and its tradition in the behavioral economics as well as its means and limits. The thesis shows how the use of this concept provides cheap and effective tools for nudging human decisions and behavior. The libertarian paternalistic approach in the law regulation is demonstrated in the new civil recodification, especially Civil Code 2012 as the fundamental act of civil law. The master thesis uses interdisciplinary approach to the topic, applying the perspectives of philosophy of law, economy, psychology and sociology.
Barriers of rationality influencing decision making
Ječmen, Michal ; Vrbová, Lucie (advisor) ; Hájek, Jiří (referee)
The aim of this thesis is thanks to an executed experiment among students of Economical University in Prague identify barriers of rationality influencing decision making. For this purpose we executed a quantitative research in the form of a questionnaire specially created for this experiment that helped us test barriers of rationality in students' decision making. We examined three types of barriers: an anchor, an influence of "FOR FREE" and adding a decoy among other choices. For data evaluation we had used methods of descriptive statistics, such as mode, median and measures of variability that we subsequently used for the evaluation of data by tests of hypotheses to compare their outcome with our assumptions. We have proved the validity of the influence of the "FOR FREE", the effect of the anchor and the decoy we have not proved in this research. We also suggested the improvement of the research and options how to reduce the influence of barriers of rationality.
application of prospect theory on poker players
Ludvík, Tomáš ; Šťastný, Daniel (advisor) ; Chytilová, Helena (referee)
Based on previous works on application of prospect theory this paper try a similar procedure to prove the truth of prospect theory for poker players. Data are collected from online poker casino Pokerstars within a few days. These data, however, are not entirely opportune to test prospect theory, since it can not accurately determine the reference point for prospect theory. Looseness measurements confirmed findings of prospect theory. Players are risk seeking for loss and risk aversion for profit. This effect is more noticeable in losses than in equally high profits. And also players are feeling more actual losses and gains than earlier losses and gains. Measurement of aggression also confirmed prospect theory but are not significant. This may be due to the way aggression is measured, because players can simply substitute the aggressive actions by calling, which can also increase the risk. Also this paper fail to demonstrate that the most risk averse players can turn pritable after loss, which results in increased risk.
